Have you heard about Santa Teresa? Well maybe not. Before arriving at this destination, we asked many backpackers of all nationalities about their Central American route and very few included this destination. How did we know about Santa Teresa? Well you will already realize that we are admirers of the Israelite routes, and this is your key destination why? well you will see. For us it was the best destination in Costa Rica we went to and not because we found impressive beaches or interesting ruins, but very unique vibe, we will definitely return!

Well guys, without further filler we tell you that to get to Santa Teresa there are many ways:

How to get to Santa Teresa?

As good travelers we will tell you all the ways we could find out to go to Santa Teresa: The cheapest way As you will already know, these Peruvian misses took this route! And it was the most uncomfortable !! But the price was worth it.

  1. Manuel Antonio - Los Quepos: There is a bus that leaves from the center of Manuel Antonio to Quepos. In our hostel Selina there was a whereabouts so we left from here At 7 am! The cost? 350 colones ($ 0.63) 30 min of trajectory.

  2. Quepos - Puntarenas: when you get to the Quepos, buy the ticket to Puntarenas right there, the journey is 3 hours along the Costa Rican coast and the ticket cost us 2605 colones ($ 4.7). Hours are limited! from 7.30 am.

  3. Puntarenas - Paquera: Here in Puntarenas the bus will not drop you at the entrance to the ferry so you will have to take a shared taxi to the ferry for $ 1 per person 5 min. Here frustrated travelers will pay the cheapest ferry of life 810 colones ($ 1.45). It takes 2.10 hours for the ferry to arrive at Paquera port and hours are also limited. Hours are: 5 am, 9 am, 11 am, 2 pm, 5 pm, and 8.30 pm.

  4. Paquera - Santa Teresa: This bus leaves until a certain time until approximately 4 pm, so try to take the ferry before 12 pm, otherwise they may not reach the last bus. The cost was 2650 colones ($ 4.73) and it was our last 3 hours !! *** Sometimes this bus does not come straight to Santa Teresa, but stops in a previous town and they are going to take another bus to Santa Teresa, so we advise you to always ask the driver about the whereabouts and tell them where to get off. .

This is the only bus route that will take you from Manuel Antonio to Santa Teresa. And no guys there is no direct bus, so prepare your strength for a long hot route. If you leave from other places in Costa Rica we suggest you go to horadebuses.com and check what buses and schedules to take. This website helped us not to get lost in Costa Rica.

Wealthy form (expensive) You have two ways to go to Santa Teresa comfortably and with air conditioning:

  1. Shuttle: in Selina there are shuttles that take you directly to Santa Tere and with less hours of travel but it costs $ 80. If you want something cheaper, we suggest that you ask in the surroundings how much the shuttle costs and ask for your discount as a good @ backpacker @, always at Selina Hostel they inflate the price of everything, but we do not think it will drop below $ 60.

  2. In your own car: This way is cheaper than the shuttle. We looked at the possibility of renting a car in Costa Rica, but we read that in the rainy season the roads, especially in the Santa Teresa area, are not paved, so mud is made and it can be dangerous if you are not an expert. Anyway, if you decide to go in your own car the ferry does not cost much either $ 20 including the people who go inside! And what if we suggest you download a recent map of Costa Rica, where you can go, since we read that there are routes that close in the rainy season.

What to visit in Santa Teresa?

Santa Teresa is a bohemian place, surfer with very beautiful sunsets and with many activities to do !! Here we tell you some of them:

1. Tortuga Island:

You should definitely visit this island, it is very beautiful! But you must take into account two things, there is only one way to get here and it is expensive. The easiest way to get here is to take a tour from Santa Teresa, here they offer you two options: go to the island from Santa Teresa, which costs around $ 70, or from Montezuma, which costs around $ 50. The second option well you have to take the bus very early to get to Montezuma at 9 am and take your tour.

Now we were able to take a tour that some friends from Chile passed us the information out there and we will give it to them !! We contacted the number +506 87077303 and he left us at the lowest price we could find $ 35. The tour includes lunch, transfer and snorkeling, the reality of the tour is that you will spend very little time on the beach like 2 hours and it is good snorkeling, it is not worth doing it here, so if you can skip the snorkeling time and spend more time on the island! Another recommendation is that you pay in cash, one friend could not withdraw their money from the ATMs anywhere and they had to pay by card and guess what !!! They charged them 13% so in the end they got something of $ 45 !! Finally, if for any reason the number that we provide here no longer exists, then try to go to Montezuma a day earlier, here are several agencies with which you can negotiate the price more than in Santa Teresa !!

2. Surf, beaches and sunsets

• Definitely the sunsets in Santa Teresa are beautiful !! But it is not that you will see them every day, We went in July and enjoyed two very beautiful sunsets in one week.

• Surfing in Costa Rica is one of the most popular sports, you should definitely learn to have fun. Although it is very expensive to learn it here, the group classes do not drop below $ 45 and the private ones at $ 70, as well and begging them to give us discounts. Board rent is about $ 15. So we decided to learn in our country that costs half !!

3. Montezuma

To go to Montezuma you can go in different ways: • Bus: take the public bus that does not cost you more than $ 1.5, although this bus is really uncomfortable and does not have a set schedule but if or if the bus passes do not worry !! • Squad: the majority goes in squad, it is only 45 min. approx. And we already mentioned the prices. In Montezuma you have the following things to see as a traveler are not many, so do not go crazy: • The Montezuma waterfalls: well we are sincere, so the waterfalls have nothing of the other world, but if you don't have more to do visit them !! • Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve • Los Suecos Beach

Where to stay in Santa Teresa?

Selina Hostel: Well guys, we didn't visit many hostels here, we were at Selina Hostel! Very nice and cheap cost us the cheapest room $ 11. And as there always is, one night it rained so much that our little room was flooded, so the floor and everything that was there got wet. We recommend that you stay in the rooms on the second floor. As for the party in Selina it is not very cool but it is very close to the Yellow Lora. Cabinas Hostel: This hostel is very cheap also $ 11 a night, it is an Israeli hostel so it has a lot of party vibe.

Where to eat?

Well we tell you that in Santa Tere many restaurants. In Costa Rica in general there are two types of places to eat: 1. Sodas: Sodas are not as fancies as restaurants, but food is cheaper. We visited a lot of sodas, some really bad, but our favorite soda was Pura Vida, here they serve you abundant and very delicious. The dish is around 3,500 ($ 6.25) and 4,500 colones ($ 8).

2. Restaurants: the restaurants are more expensive but there are very good ones that we can recommend: Zula, Israeli food and the prices are around 4500 ($ 8) and 7000 colones ($ 13), The Bakery, here the dishes are expensive between the 4,500 ($ 8) and 11,000 colones ($ 21).
